I recently began using shampoo bars after a woman that I follow on Instagram shared her results of using one for about a year so far. You can read all about my personal experience using shampoo bars here. If you’re ready to find the right one for you, check out these, ones from Mule Hell Trading Company, or Ava Quinns. I personally use shampoo bars from Mule Hell Trading Company.
If you’ve thought about making the switch and trying out shampoo bars but are still on the fence about them, then be sure to keep reading and learn 8 reasons to start using shampoo bars today.
1. They’re All-Natural
Now, I understand that not all shampoo bars use all-natural ingredients. It seems that most small businesses use natural ingredients though. My suggestion would be to check the labels and ask the makers/owners about the ingredients that are put into their shampoo bars.
Using an all-natural product is better for your hair and the environment. And a product that is healthier and safer for both yourself and the planet is a win-win, in my opinion.
2. Positive Results When Coloring Hair
I recently learned that when we color our hair, the chemicals that we are putting into our hair from shampoos, conditioners, etc. are basically blocking the dye from reaching the hair. When there are no chemicals blocking the dye, the dye is able to take better to the hair. After learning that and coloring my own hair (using the same dye I always do) after using the all-natural shampoo bar, I noticed that it was lighter and closer to what is pictured on the box.
Ultimately, it is best to not even color your hair, but I wanted to be sure and let you know that for me and my color treated-hair, shampoo bars do not have a negative effect on it.
3. You’re Supporting Small Businesses
Most small businesses making shampoo bars are using all-natural ingredients So I would start my search with them. By purchasing from a small business, you are helping them continue on with their business ventures and support their family.
Plus, if you have any questions or concerns about their products, you are more likely to talk to the owner and/or makers of the product. They can help you decide what products will work best for you because they know exactly what’s in the products they make.
4. Shampoo Bars Are Cheaper
I know that regular shampoos and even shampoo bar prices can very greatly. However, for me, I now pay around $6 for one bar and it lasts me around a month and that is with using it as a body wash as well. That’s much cheaper than the cost of purchasing the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that I had been using for so long!
*Update: I now use actual shampoo and conditioner bars that Mule Hell Trading Company has recently released (not just the soap bars), and they last a long time. I paid for one shampoo bar and one conditioner bar (around $20 total) and the two bars have lasted over two and a half months!
5. Use Them To Wash Your Body
As I mentioned above, the particular shampoo bar that I use can also be used as soap for your body. This makes it even cheaper and a better option for your body and the environment as well.
I actually purchased this soap dish that came with a soap exfoliating bag that is a natural soap saver! I just put the shampoo bar into the bag and use it on my hair and body.
6. No Liquids to Worry About
Aside from shampoo bars being healthier and cheaper for your hair, they also make travel easier. With shampoo bars, you don’t have to worry about shampoo and conditioner leaking out into your bag or suitcase. I simply dry mine off and wrap it up in a cloth or put it in a small bag with my other toiletries.
7. Shampoo Bars Reduce the Amount of Items You Need to Travel With
Shampoo bars not only eliminate some of the liquids you may have to travel with, but they reduce the overall amount of items you need to travel with. If you use them for you hair and body, you’ve just eliminated a shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottle! That frees up so much extra space in your suitcase, especially if you’re trying to travel light!
8. Using Shampoo Bars Reduces Plastic
Finally, not only is using a shampoo bar safer, healthier, and cheaper than traditional shampoo, it also helps the environment. By using a shampoo bar, the use of plastic is being reduced because you no longer need the plastic containers to hold the shampoo and conditioner. If you use the bars as body wash as well, then you’ve just eliminated another plastic bottle!
Those are 8 reasons that made me start using shampoo bars. I hope, if nothing else, they’ve given you a reason to start thinking about ways that you too can begin cutting down on costs in certain places as well as the use of plastic. Shampoo bars also free up extra space while traveling and reduce the need to travel with liquids. And they are just simply better for you and the environment. Why not use them or at least give them a try?!
So, are you ready to start using shampoo bars? Remember, you can purchase them from Mule Hell Trading Company (where I purchase mine), Ava Quinns, or right on Amazon! And remember, I’ve written all about my personal experience using shampoo bars to give you even more insight to using shampoo bars.
